| To apply for admission, after understanding well of our purpose, please send the admission application form to the bureau by E-mail. Admission Guide with further details is here. The admission application form is also downloadable from mid part of the same page. |
| How do I cancel membership? |
| Members will receive a notice of membership expiration a few months before the expiry date. If you do not wish to continuously be a member of OESF in the following year, please fill out the withdrawal form and send it back to the OESF office. In case you wish to cancel OESF membership before your membership period expires, please download the withdrawal form from this page and send it to OESF office. |
| About flows of admission & withdrawal |
| Flow of admission 1. Download the application form 2. Fill it out and create a PDF file. 3. Attach the file and e-mail to OESF office. 4. OESF office will send an e-mail of acknowledge of admission and the invoice. 5. OESF office will ask a new member to provide your company logo, banner data and create your OESF mail account(s). 6. New member will announce your admission to OESF (company introduction) to thewhole OESF members. 7. New member company pay annual membership fee and admission fee. 8. OESF office will inform you when receiving/not receiving payment by e-mail. 9. OESF office will issue a certificate of membership and ship it to the new member company. Flow of extension of membership 1. OESF office will send an e-mail to the member of membership expiration a few months prior to the expiry date. 2. If you wish to extend the membership, please inform if there has been any change in your company information to OESF office. (If you wish to cancel the membership, please refer to the flow below.) 3. OESF office will issue an invoice for your following year membership fee in PDF format. 4. The member pay the fee by the due date. 5. OESF office will inform you when receiving/not receiving payment by e-mail. Flow of withdrawal from membership 1. In case you wish to cancel your membership in the middle of your membership period, or to withdraw from membership after the membership expiry date, please fill out the withdrawal form and send it to OESF office. 2. OESF office sends an acknowledge mail of your withdrawal. 3. OESF office send a confirmation mail to you that all the related procedure has been done (on the day you appointed) to withdrawal from membership. |
| What is the difference between the regular members and the supporting members? |
| Regular members of Open Embedded Software Foundation are entitled to all the rights granted to employees under the Civil Code. Supporting members are not regarded as employees under the Civil Code; thus supporting members do not have voting rights. Supporting members are able to participate in the activities of the working group of OESF but may not participate in the projects. Therefore, they do not have early access to source code and cannot become a project manager or committer who develops source codes etc. However, in case appointed by a project manager, a supporting member may participate in a project as a contributor. | What is the period of validity of a member (membership fee)? |
| Membership fees are annual fees. Term of validity of membership is for a year; beginning from the following month the admission is accepted. For example, if the admission was accepted in May 2009, the period of validity of membership fee (membership qualification) is from June 1st, 2009 until the last day of May 2010. 3 months prior from the expiration of the membership qualification, the OESF bureau will send a notification regarding the renewal of membership fee (membership qualification) for the following year to the person-in-charge of the corporation member. We will not send an invoice without confirming your renewal intention. In such case when renewal procedure is not taken (the membership fee for the second year is not paid) and the period of validity of the membership qualification has expired, the company will be regarded to be adjourned its membership and the OESF account of the corporation member shall be inactive. Within one year after being adjourned, if the company made a payment of annual fee, then the company can comeback as a member, but if the company make no payment for one year, then the company will lose their OESF membership. Please note that from then on, when the corporation desires to participate in OESF’s activities, the membership qualification of the corporation will not be regarded to be continuing and thus, the corporation shall have to re-enroll and pay “admission fee” other than the membership fee. | Can we participate as a Japanese entity though we are a foreign company? |
| Yes, you may participate as a Japanese entity. However, OESF recommends that you participate in the name of the foreign company. OESF’s events are also led by OESF’s branches overseas and not limited to be held in Japan, it may be difficult to participate with only the membership qualification of a Japanese entity. Additionally, we also recommend for the person-in-charge at the head office of the foreign company to also consider participating in WG (working groups). |
| Can membership fee be paid in currency other than Japanese Yen? |
| Yes. Payment in US Dollars are also possible. Please specify the payment currency in the application form. Please note that the exchange rate of the membership fee may be revised without prior notice. |
