| What is an OESF E-mail account? |

| An OESF E-mail account is an E-mail account such as xxxx@oesf.jp or xxxx@oesf.biz. The E-mail account is issued when the corporation members whom already have become a member of OESF applies for the E-mail account. Applying for the E-mail account may be done at the same time as the submission of the admission application form. (Updated in July 2010) |
| What happens if I do not apply for an OESF E-mail account? |
| Without an OESF E-mail account, you may not participate in ML (mailing list) or WG (working groups) constituted by OESF corporation members. In other words, even if the company is a member of OESF, if you do not apply for an E-mail account, the employees of the corporation members will not be able to receive E-mails with general information through ML or may not become involved in WG activities. If a company with 10 employees becomes a member of OESF, only the person-in-charge of the application will apply for an OESF E-mail account. In such case, the other 9 employees will not be able to participate in ML or WG. However, normally, since it is likely that not all employees of the corporation members will participate in the daily activities of OESF, we ask for only the application of E-mail accounts of those whom will be actively participating in OESF’s activities. Application for accounts may be done at the same time as the application for membership. However, we will also accept application for newly issued accounts or deletion requests due to reasons such as transfer or retirement of the person-in-charge at admin@oesf.biz. Additionally, even without an OESF E-mail account, you will be able to receive general news of OESF if the company E-mail account is registered (notice of events, from 4 to 5 times a year). |
| Why can we not use an E-mail account with the name of a corporation in it? |
| The reasons why the participant of ML and WG are limited to OESF E-mail accounts is due to reasons of fairness and anonymity. All the deliverables of OESF’s projects are purposed to widely disseminate as open source. In such case, it is preferable to disseminate the software as one made by an OESF member and not a software made by an employee of a certain company. Additionally, often the members normally work in the same business field as other members and it is sometimes difficult for the members to continue the WG activities being aware of members as Mr/Ms A from AAA Corporation or Mr/Ms B from BBB Corporation. We think it is suitable for members to participate as equal members of OESF who have agreed to the activity purpose of OESF and cooperates together for the purpose of developing open source. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation. Please be assured that you will be able to receive necessary OESF information if the E-mail address you usually used is registered even if you have not applied for an OESF E-mail account. |
| Why do we setup the forwarding function? |
| Currently at OESF, we are using GoogleApps as the information tool of our members. All information of WG and Projects are managed by GoogleApps and thus, xxxx@oesf.jp account and xxxxx@oesf.biz account are issued in order to set access privileges. All notices etc to each corporation member are E-mailed to this address. The basis of the E-mail is Google Gmail and management of documents, schedules, and sites can also be used. However, we have received many comments from our members that it is inconvenient to use Google Gmail, an account different from the company’s account used for business. Some members only login to Gmail once in a few months and as a result, overlooked important notices from OESF. Therefore, we ask OESF members to set the forwarding function of OESF E-mails to their E-mail address normally used for business so that the members are able to receive all OESF E-mails. Please complete the setup of forwarding function by following the procedures described in the forwarding setup E-mail (example of title of E-mail: “Open Embedded Software Foundation will forward its confirmation (92384668”)), which will be sent to the members following the E-mail notifying the completion of setup of account. If you do not wish to forward your OESF E-mails, we kindly ask you to check your Google Gmail account frequently. |
| Are there regular meetings of the members? |
| We will not be notifying corporation members of regular meetings. There are some WG which holds regular meetings led by each coordinator and there are also WG which do not hold any regular meetings. As means of regular meetings of OESF, we quarterly hold Progress Conference and organize events such as Android Steps Ahead in which we disclose information including activity reports. We are a general incorporated association and therefore we hold an annual general meeting of members. |
| Regarding the range of use of banners and logos |
| You may advertize your company banner on the OESF HP ( http://www.oesf.jp/ and http://www.oesf.biz/ ) if you wish, after you have become a member of OESF. In addition, it is possible for companies to advertize their logos along with the name of the companies in the List of OESF Corporation Members, if you wish. Range of usage is limited to OESF HP, lecture material, printing on exhibits at trade shows etc. Posting of banner advertisements are free of expense and the posting term is without limitation as long as the company has the membership qualification. The banner size is 234x60 pixels. There is no restriction regarding the linked pages from the banner. Therefore, we are able to flexibly correspond to requests such as normally linking to the HP of the corporation member and linking to the URL of a dedicated page during periods when you wish to notify events. After understanding the above purpose and if we are permitted the usage of banners or logos, we would appreciate your cooperation. After becoming a member of OESF, we will promptly post the banner or logo after we have received the data. |
| Will we be able to know the attribution of the corporation members and information of the person-in-charge? |
| The OESF bureau does not notify the contact information of the person-in-charge since it is personal information. However, directly exchanging contact information among members while participating in WG or projects is not prohibited and we ask you to interact with one another in this way. Also, there are opportunities for corporation members not participating in WG to communicate with other participants from other corporation members at events held several times a year. |
